When dispersed properly, the 3-dimensional particle-particle network of fumed silica increases viscosity of oils, improve drop point. CAB-O-SIL fumed silica is widely used in dielectric greases, damping greases, vacuum greases and food grade greases. In non-soap, high temperature lubricating greases CAB-O-SIL fumed silica increases the viscosity of base oils, provides stable viscosity & prevent oil separation. Hydrophilic fumed silica when dispersed in non-polar oils thickens the oil, whereas hydrophobic fumed silica add water repellence properties to the medium polar to high polar oils.
