| Centre for Exceptional children celebrates anniversary |

| CHENNAI: Every special child who walked onto the stage was either dressed as Krishna or Radha. The children, all aged below six, were accompanied by their sometimes chiding and sometimes indulgent mothers or teachers donning the role of Yasodha. It was as if Lord Krishna was enjoying an outing with special children at Bala Mandir German Hall in T. Nagar on Tuesday. |
| The programme, titled `Joyful times with Krishna', was part of the anniversary celebrations of the Madhuram Narayanan Centre for Exceptional Children. |
| It aimed to showcase the skills learnt by the children. |
| The centre, promoted by the Sanmar Group of Companies, provides early intervention services to children with mental retardation in the below-six-years age group. |
| V. Krishnaswamy, retired Air Vice-Marshal and director of the centre, said that the objective was to rehabilitate children with disability, and to motivate those interested in setting up such training centres. |
| V. Shanta, Chairman, Cancer Institute, Adyar, praised the efforts of Mr. Krishnaswamy and his wife. |
| She said the centre had chosen to be involved in one of the very difficult and daunting problems of medical care. |
| She said the centre was like the Cancer Institute, whose mission is service and reward is the smiles they received from patients. |
| She said prevention is important, but research into the causes for the occurrence of retardation is also important. |
