K S Narayanan Block inaugurated at
Sri Sankara Vidyashramam School |
| K S Narayanan, whose contribution has made
possible the new block of buildings at Sri Sankara Vidyashramam
Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Tiruvanmiyur, Chennai,
was present at the inauguration of the block on July 14, 2000.
Besides K S Narayanan, the Chairman of the Indian Education
Trust, former President of India R Venkataraman, Dr M Anandakrishnan,
Vice Chairman, Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education
and V S Dhandapani, Managing Trustee, the Indian Education Trust
were all present at the inaugural function. Speaking on the
occasion, the former President said that it was the duty of
educationists, teachers and mentors to identify the talents
of youngsters and encourage them to develop those talents. Finding
fault with the present system of education, which laid too much
stress on the syllabus and examination process, the former President
said schools must enable students to diversify their interests.

| Dr M Anandakrishnan,
in his address, said that the education system in the country
relied too much on the syllabus and ensured that students forgot
that there were other things they could interest themselves
in. V S Dhandapani, Managing Trustee, said in his speech that
Sri Sankara Schools have grown from a modest beginning to accommodate
3000 students in the two branches at Adyar and Tiruvanmiyur
today. |
