Rotary Club honours K S Narayanan

Chairman Emeritus K S Narayanan was one of nine eminent personalities honoured by the Rotary Club of Madras at its platinum jubilee celebrations. The Governor of Tamil Nadu, P S Ramamohan Rao, gave away the awards to the ‘navaratnas’ for their distinguished service to society. The award carried a citation and a platinum coin.
M Balamuralikrishna, S Muthiah, Dr A M Selvaraj, Kalanidhi Narayanan, M N Nambiar, Lalgudi G Jayaraman, Dr M S Swaminathan and K Venkatasubramanian were the other awardees of the evening.
Sudhakara Reddy, President, Rotary Club of Madras, spoke on the occasion.

1919 K S Narayanan (KSN) is born in Kallidaikurichi, Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu.
1936 Marries Madhuram. Joins Indo-Commercial Bank.
1938-39 Takes over a printing ink factory.
1940 Turns around South India Rubber Factory, later named Nanco Rubber Works.
1943 Another turnaround—this time a carbide factory, Industrial Chemicals.
1946 Joins India Cements, started by his father SNN Sankaralinga Iyer.
1947 Goes to Denmark for training—also, Norway, Sweden, UK and Egypt.
1962 Chemplast incorporated with KSN as promoter director.
1967 Chemplast PVC plant commissioned.
1969 KSN becomes founder president of Southern Regional Council of Indo-American Chamber of Commerce.
1972 Silver Jubilee of India Cements with KSN as managing director.
1973 Chairman, Tamil Nadu Dadha Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
1974 Nominated Sheriff of Madras.
1975 President of Hindustan Chamber of Commerce.
First Indian to become Consul for Denmark.
1980-90 Chairman of Chemplast and South India Shipping Corporation.
Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark confers on KSN the ‘Order of the Dannerbrog’ 1983.
Hands over reins of administration to his sons N Sankar and N Kumar but continues to guide them.
1991-98 Resigns from the chairmanship of South India Shipping Corporation, WS Industries, Tamil Nadu Dadha Pharmaceuticals and Chemplast Sanmar Ltd.
Appointed Chairman-Emeritus of Chemplast.
