| The tenth anniversary celebration of Sanmar
Speciality Chemicals (SSCL) held on November 20, 2001 at Hotel
Guestline Attibele, near Bangalore, and at SSCL, Berigai, was
an unqualified success. |
| Chief guest N Sankar, Chairman, Sanmar group,
members of the Corporate Executive Committee, (CEC), employees
and their families, and government officials from Hosur, attended
the function. Speaking on the occasion, N Sankar commended the
efforts of the employees and reminded them of the challenges
that lie ahead. He said adaptability to change, customer focus,
adherence to quality, constant research towards innovation and
team work were the key parameters to success. |
| M S Sekhar, Managing Director, SSCL, outlined
the challenges ahead and closed with a reference to the famous
Robert Frost lines, “And miles to go before I sleep.” C G Sethuram,
Chief Executive, SSCL, traced the growth of the speciality chemicals
business, highlighting the milestones that marked the ten eventful
years. Capt B Chakrapani, Managing Director, Sanmar Shipping
Limited, articulated his belief in the importance of team work
in any business, relating his own experiences as a student-trainee
and later as a seafarer in the merchant navy. B Natraj, Managing
Director, Corporate, Chemplast Sanmar grew nostalgic as he recalled
the early days of the Berigai operations and the teething troubles
successfully overcome by the team. |

| Long service awards were presented to the
employees who had completed ten years’ service. V R Venkataraman,
Vice President, Berigai-Operations, SSCL, proposed the vote
of thanks with a renewed commitment on behalf of the team to
achieve greater heights in the decade ahead. “Jaya Berigai Kottada”,
Subramania Bharati’s famous exhortation, was his final clarion
call. The programme was compered by Sarada Jagan, Executive
Vice President-Corporate, HR, Chemplast Sanmar Limited. |
| Later, the CEC team and the Chairman drove
to the factory at Berigai, went around the plant and planted
saplings to mark the occasion. As at the morning function at
the hotel, there was a display of the milestones achieved by
SSCL at the factory premises too. |
