| Indchem Software Technologies Limited (ISTL)
has been successfully assessed and certified for SEI-CMM level
4. The assessment for the certification was carried out by KPMG
in September 2002. Indchem Software focuses on delivery of product
solutions and project services to banking and insurance, logistics
and manufacturing, embedded systems, sales and distribution,
telecommunication, health care and website development. |
| With this certification, Indchem Software
joins the select list of 73 level 4 companies across the world,
out of which 28 are Indian companies. N Kumar, CEO, Indchem
Software described the achievement thus: ‘Our quality journey
started way back when we defined our quality policy—“to develop
world class processes which deliver timely and high quality
software to our customers.” Quality is a never ending journey,
we are now moving towards a higher goal of reaching SEI-CMM
level 5.’ |

| Dr Chitra K Natrajan, Head of Quality Assurance,
ISTL, said, “Our focus has always been to treat quality processes
as a vital component in our work and strive towards institutionalization
of the processes across our organization. Achieving SEI-CMM level
4 is an important milestone for us and will serve as a stepping stone
for reaching higher levels of maturity”. |
| What is SEI-CMM? |
| SEI-CMM is a quality management system methodology
like the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and ISO 9000. SEI-CMM
stands for Software Engineering Institute Capability Maturity Model,
awarded by SEI, a federally funded R&D centre, operated by Carnegie
Mellon University under contract and sponsorship by the US Department
of Defense. |
| CII Institute of Logistics launched |
| The Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Institute
of Logistics was launched at Chennai on October 31, 2002. Speaking
on the occasion Ashok Soota, President, CII, said that CII’s principal
objective was to enhance the competitiveness of India Inc. and the
key sectors of the economy, which impact the country’s growth. He
also said that with three major ports, Chennai could become a logistics
hub in South Asia on par with Dubai and Singapore. |
| Speaking at the launch of the Institute, N Kumar,
Chairman, CII Institute of Logistics, said that the supply chain was
gaining visibility as a crucial competitive weapon. With the growing
need for trained personnel, this centre of excellence “is a felt need”,
of industry, he stressed. |
