| Chemplast Sanmar Limited purchased a
mothballed oxychlorination plant from National Organic
Chemicals India Ltd. (NOCIL), Mumbai in November 1999.
The equipment bought from NOCIL was refurbished and many
new items including pressure vessels, heat exchangers,
reactors, compressors, pumps, piping, electric and instrumentation
were added and the new facility was erected at the PVC
plant site, Mettur, and successfully commissioned. In
order to make optimum utilisation of the facility, a sophisticated
ethylene purification unit, additional utilities like
a nitrogen plant, refrigeration plant, cooling tower,
motor control centre etc., have also been installed. The
entire operation including the dismantling of the plant
at NOCIL and re-erecting it at Mettur was done in the
record time of twelve months. |
| N Sankar, Chairman of the Sanmar group,
accompanied by M N Radhakrishnan, Managing Director, Sanmar
Engineering Corporation, P S Jayaraman, Managing Director,
Chemplast Sanmar Limited and S R Seshadri visited the
new facility at Mettur on November 22, 2000. The new facility
will substantially reduce dependence on chlorine sourcing.
Besides, it will also alleviate the problems of handling
large volumes of hydrochloric acid. |
| Apart from this facility, the company
is also executing projects for ethylene augmentation and
paste capacity expansion, which are expected to be completed
very soon. |
