A Norwegian friend’s
gesture to cyclone victims |
| Emil Fjermeros, a Norwegian national, has
contributed a sum of Rs.2,00,000 from his residual assets in
India to the victims of the recent cyclone in Orissa. He has
been a long time friend of the Sanmar group and its Chairman
Emeritus K S Narayanan. Fjermeros and his wife have a soft corner
for India and have continuously ploughed back what they earned
in India for over thirty years. Moved by the suffering caused
to the people of Orissa by the cyclone, Fjermeros made this
spontaneous gesture. Fjermeros came to work with the Ganges
Ink Factory in Calcutta in 1938, and visited its Madras unit
regularly till he retired in 1965. Thereafter, he became the
Director of the Indo-Norwegian Fisheries Project, Ernakulam
in 1966 and returned to Norway in 1969. All his earnings from
his several investments in India have gone to charities. |
