| The recent merger of Overseas Sanmar Financial Limited
(OSFL) with Nicco-Uco Alliance Credit Limited, has come in for critical
acclaim both for the method–via an Asset Reconstruction Company
route, described as the most tax-efficient method by Sanmar group
Chairman N Sankar–and the high customer-friendliness of the
entire operation. OSFL President P Viswanathan spoke to us at length
on the merger. We publish excerpts. |
| We also feature news from Asco (India) Ltd., with
particular reference to the marketing of pneumatic products undertaken
by the company. The highlight of this issue of Matrix is however,
the prominence given to the various extramural activities encouraged
by the management and enjoying the enthusiastic participation of the
group’s dynamic employees. Pride of place goes to Sanmartini,
the new avatar of the popular Inter Business Group Competition. It
was a tremendous success and a real feather in the cap for the HR
team at corporate headquarters who masterminded the show. |
| The AGM of Indian Chemical Manufacturers Association
(ICMA) with S Subramanian, Executive Director-Chlorochemicals occupying
the presidential chair has been included in the news, as an example
of the prominent role played by senior Sanmar personnel in industry-wide
initiatives and cooperation. |
| That our heritage and culture form an essential
part of the fabric of life in our various establishments, is exemplified
by the conservation of a temple within the precincts of our Vedaranyam
salt works, reported here. |
| Amar V Chandra, son of V Suresh Chandra of Sanmar-PTI
Filters, was a member of the victorious Indian team at the International
Astronomy Olympiad held recently. We proudly feature him. |
| Group Vice Chairman N Kumar looks back on his year
as CII President with refreshing candour, sharp insights and gentle
humour. The excerpts we carry from his reminiscences will make readers
ask for more, we are sure. |
| Sadagopan Ramesh, the Sanmar group’s left
handed opening batsman, hardly a year old in international cricket,
has been performing with astonishing consistency at the highest level.
We publish an interview with him held just before he left with the
Indian team for Australia. |
| Yashwant Saran, one of our talented quizzers, gives
us a bird’s eye-view of quizzing in India. We also give a brief
report on the recent Brand Equity Quiz conducted by Economic Times.
|
| The tenth anniversary celebrations of the Madhuram
Narayanan Centre for exceptional Children on 12th December were as
always beautifully planned and flawlessly organised, a tribute to
the dedication of the moving spirit behind the venture, Air Vice Marshal
V Krishnaswamy (Retd.), his wife Jaya Krishnaswamy, the children at
the centre, staff, parents and volunteers. We present a brief report. |
| We also doff our cap to Emil Fjermeros, a Norwegian
friend of the group, who donated generously to the Orissa Cyclone
Relief Fund. |
