ASCO (India) launches
transfer switch products
The last quarter of 1998-’99 saw some interesting developments at ASCO (India) Ltd., which began marketing the products of its newly formed switch division. A high level international team visited the Indian facility in acknowledgement of this important step forward: Klaus Laackman, President, ASCO Joucomatic, Asia Pacific Corporate, Singapore, A J Williams, Operations Director, ASCO Joucomatic, U K, and Stewart Thomson, General Manager, ASCO Mideast.
The team was enthusiastic about the potential for the switch business in India, as was evidenced by the detailed strategy for the switch division, formed with a view to expanding the Indian company’s base and strengthening its presence in the domestic market.
The ASCO (India) team was equally enthused, and immediately organised technical seminars in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. These seminars began with a general overview of the company and its activities by the President, S Raghuram, followed by a detailed technical presentation by an overseas team comprising Herb Daugherty from Florham Park, ASCO USA, Roger Lee from ASCO Singapore and Stewart Thomson from ASCO Mideast. There were separate sessions for consultants, OEMs, architects and major electrical contractors, and a total of 120 people participated in these seminars.
Another significant milestone for ASCO (India) was the first major order for the hydramotor valves from a user power plant, (Maharashtra State Electricity Board). The order covered the requirements of MSEB for its Parli and Nasik thermal power plants, at a total value of Rs 3.27 million. With other orders coming up shortly, it looks as though ASCO’s hydramotor valves are here to stay.
Further news from ASCO (India) is in the area of Namur 3-way valves, 610 of which were ordered by Virgo Engineers to meet the requirements of IOCL Baroda’s V Gantry Project. The order was obtained against serious competition from Herion. With this order, IOCL Baroda has fully standardised on ASCO-made solenoid valves.
