| The celebration started towards the last quarter
of 1998 and gathered momentum. A number of sports, games and
cultural events involving employees and their families were
arranged to commemorate the occasion. This culminated in a get-together
of employees and their families organised on 27th January at
Cuddalore. This was attended by some of the managers from Head
Office. The District Collector was an honoured guest. The following
events formed part of the function. |

| The official function on January 28
was attended by the German Ambassador, Dr H D Dieckmann, the French
Ambassador, Claude Blanchemaison, N Sankar and N Kumar. Dr Zaby, Head
of Bayer A G-Plastics Division, Krell, Dr Wagner, Dr Van Osselaer,
H E Herman, Dr Mcgilvray – all top brass from the Bayer group
– were present, emphasising their commitment to the joint venture.

| Sankar outlined the highlights of the various
phases of the operations at Cuddalore and the logic for the
joint venture with Bayer A G. He appreciated the dedication
and contribution of the employees. Dr Zaby reiterated his company’s
commitment to the joint venture and appreciated the cordial
relationship and cooperation that existed between Bayer and
Sanmar. |
| Dr Zaby inaugurated the Bayer Guest House
at Cuddalore which was followed by lunch. All these invitees
were flown to Chennai by chartered flights to attend the evening’s
dinner at Taj Coromandel. Mementoes were exchanged by N Sankar
and the German Ambassador. |
